Statement

Before people become a part of your life, or the love of your life;

before you notice someone,

& talk with them for the first time,

you see them for the first time, they pique your interest, or you pique their interest,

you have to encounter them. You have to discover them.

How does hist happen? Where does this happen?

Do we cause this to happen? Does this just happen?

How do we connect?

I am an Illustrative Impressionist.  My paintings are impressions of the scenes and situations that I encounter abroad and in daily life. They illustrate scenes from the stories that surround us, individual frames from a longer constantly evolving film.

My current work centers on my consideration of the relationships that develop between us and around us; how our common experiences affect us collectively and influence us individually. How we respond to each other and how we interact with our environment together.

This exploration touches upon several very basic questions….

What causes us to laugh together, wonder at and respond to our surroundings together. What causes us to become lost and find out way together, how we ultimately all live with together inspires me and my images are inspired by these encounters.

Stories surround us. The excitement of being a part of a holiday crowd, of venturing out with no particular destination, intimate moments with those we love and those whose paths we cross in the big events and ordinary moments of everyday life.

How do we find answers to these questions?  More travels, more adventures, more stories, more experiences together.

Color, movement, and body language combine and contrast to illustrate these moments. What do we bring to a story, and what do learn from being a part of it? What do we create together. How do we grow together. How do we develop an understanding of each other?

Together.

A painter born and raised in Los Angeles, I grew up in a family of visual artists, including my father and grandfather, who were both cinematographers.

I learned the importance of framing and lighting to set a scene and the power of stringing scenes together to tell a compelling story.

After graduating from California State University, Northridge, I worked as an Illustrator, Muralist, and Greeting Card Designer

before discovering painting with acrylics and colored pencil.

I am inspired largely by traveling with my family and what I encounter in everyday life, and live with my husband, son, and dog in Los Angeles.
